Course information

I have been studying computer skills at HaKIT (Hangleton and Knoll Information Technology) part of the Hangleton & Knoll Project at St.Richards’s Church and Community Centre.  Over the past two years I have completed a full CLAIT (computer literacy and information technology) qualifcation.  This includes computer skills such as fle management e-document production to most recently website creation.  I am now more confdent at using the computer.

I got started because I could not understand what my grandchildren were asking me about and I wanted to be able to help them with their homework.  My husband was already doing a course and as my husband is disabled the centre is not too far away, if I am needed at home. There are a lot of things that I have enjoyed, including making me think for myself, meeting new people and helping both my children and grandchildren with their home work.

I feel that I am now in a position to help others learn to use the computer.  I am planning to help out at some of the courses, and at the drop-in at St Richards and Hangleton library as a volunteer teaching assistant.

I am 24 and currently living in Hove YMCA and studying at Ivory Place, the Friends’ Centre. I’m taking part in Numeracy Level 2 and Literacy Level 1 which I’m enjoying. I have now passed my Literacy Level 1 and am now studying for Literacy Level 2. I
found out about this course from Jan, the Step By Step tutor I was doing one-to-one work with on Literacy and Numeracy.
