Family Learning
Family Learning courses are inter-generational courses where parents/carers learn alongside their children.
They have two main aims:
- to develop the skills or knowledge of the adult and the child
- to help parents /carers be able to support their children's learning more actively and with greater confidence, and to be able to understand why that support is important
The accredited Family Language, Literacy and Numeracy programmes have more specific targets to improve the language, literacy and numeracy skills of parents and children. Parents have the opportunity to complete National Open College Network accreditation, and to move on to take the National Certifcates for Adult Literacy and/or Numeracy.
Courses are run every term in targeted schools and pre-school settings across the city, as part of a rolling programme.
