Success of the Adult Learner of the Year Awards (Updated)
Adult Learning Week was celebrated locally and one of the highlights was the presentation of the Brighton and Hove Adult Learner of the Year awards. Over 100 people gathered on Tuesday May 12 at Hove Town Hall to applaud the achievements of the 14 people who had been selected by local adult education providers to receive an award. Each person receiving an award had been recognised by their tutors as someone who had excelled in their own particular learning, often despite the odds. Everyone had displayed a real commitment, enthusiasm and a great positive attitude to learning new skills. The evening also celebrated the achievement of local resident, Barrie Hughes, who had been named National Senior Learner of the Year.
The awards were presented by Cllr Carol Theobald, deputy mayor, and Di Smith, Director of Children’s Services, who holds the responsibility for adult learning within Brighton and Hove City Council. A group of adult learners taking digital photography at the Bridge Community Education Centre were the official photographers for the night and the audience were treated to an instant slide show of the event.
The Adult Learning Awards brochure is now available.
